U.S. hotels and tourism groups are stepping up efforts to bring Canadian travelers back as political tensions and tariffs weigh on cross-border travel. Some downtown Las Vegas hotels are accepting the Canadian dollar at par with the U.S. dollar, giving visitors more value. New York has also launched hotel, restaurant and attraction discounts for Canadians. Canadian trips to the U.S. fell sharply in 2025, with spending down about $2.4 billion. Venice’s Lido is seeing a major hotel revival as the Venice Film Festival brings global attention to the island. The historic Hotel Excelsior has reopened after the first stage of a multi-year refurbishment, adding redesigned rooms, restaurants and a beach club. Meliá Venezia Lido has also expanded the island’s upscale hotel offering. The biggest project is the planned €200 million restoration of the Grand Hôtel des Bains, closed since 2010. TFE Hotels is investing $100 million to upgrade its first-generation Adina apartment hotels across Australia and Europe. The program covers guest rooms, public areas and amenities, with Adina Darling Harbor among the major projects. Other properties in Perth, Sydney, Frankfurt and Budapest are also receiving upgrades. The investment comes alongside plans for new Adina hotels in Australia, the UK and Europe. TFE is positioning the refreshed brand around larger living spaces, hotel services and a residential-style stay. Read more.

Highland Coast Hotels is investing £1 million across four Scottish properties to support year-round tourism. Kylesku Hotel has added four rooms and brought seven rooms at Kylesku House under the hotel brand. Ten rooms at The Haven at Plockton Inn have also been upgraded, while Lochardil House has received guest-room and lounge improvements. More work at The Haven is planned for early 2027. The group says the investment will improve the guest experience while supporting tourism and employment in remote Highland communities. Read more.

More than 1,300 workers at Encore Boston Harbor remained on strike through the Labor Day weekend after contract talks with Wynn Resorts stalled. Employees represented by UNITE HERE Local 26 and Teamsters Local 25 are seeking higher wages, stronger benefits and job protections. The unions say negotiations have made little progress since contracts expired. Encore says the resort remains open and operational and that it wants a financially sustainable agreement.
